Week 2 Leadership Styles

Q You are the Warden at Milford as you are in every single Discussion element. You called the Control Center and noted you were off the facility grounds and spending the evening with friends at another prison. Your cell rings at 6:00 PM. The Shift Commander of the 3 - 11 PM Shift calls from Milford. She is a veteran of 15 years service, 3 years as Lieutenant/Shift Commander and on the list for promotion to Captain. - someone you trust and respect. While serving the evening meal a fight broke out in the dining hall. The incident quickly escalated and 50 inmates were involved. You are the ranking officer on site. The facility has emergency response procedures and they are well known to the Lieutenant/Shift Commander. The Lt. notes that since a new Warden is in charge she wanted to contact you ASAP to determine how she is to proceed. What style of leadership do you believe will be the most effective from the perspective of your position as Warden in responding to the Shift Commander? Explain your best understanding of the correct response to the Lt. and explain why? This is a question covering 2 issues - what to respond and why - not to exceed 400 words). Cite at least one source to support your answer. Please provide responses to a minimum of at least three postings from your fellow classmates or Professor Wallenstein to seek a week Discussion score of above 75%. Your responses should add value to the discussion; not simply be a restatement or an agreement with the posting of your classmate. Length of Discussion postings is not the issue - adding value and writing it properly is the approach.

I think that transformational or situational leadership would be the best style to be used as a Warden. This is because the Shift Commander had to be delegated with the role of a mediator by changing/replacing her duties. I would have to provide assistance to the Shift Commander by instructing her to separate the two groups of inmates. However, this would only be possible if there would be two groups. There could be more than two groups. There could be no groups at all. The Shift Commander would require manpower to manage the 50 inmates. I would have to delegate individuals to assist the Shift Commander (Polaschek, 2019).
